Snow buildup in the airbox

I just had my Xpress 400 out for a ride in the snow.After about a half hour it started running like crap,had no top end.After I limped it home i found the air filter was completely caked with snow.I also noticed the foam air filter was missing from the air intake tube that supplies fresh air to the air box.Would this be the problem?Seems like the intake tube is high enough that it shouldn't be pulling snow in.I think there is a drain/vent in the bottom of the air box.I was thinking this may also be the culprit.Anybody had this issue?

should be a red plug in the bottom drain vent and a foam sock over the top snorkle, if its missin the sock, thats where it came from
