2002 sportsman 700 runs rough after ignition replacement

I have a 2002 sportsman 700 that previously was not getting any spark. After reading posts on this site regarding the cdi module, I did a test and confirmed that it had gone down. I ordered a replacement ignition system on-line and did the replacement in a couple hours, doing my annual maintenance at the same time (new oil, oil filter, coolant, lube, fuel filter, plugs, etc.).

After replacement, it fired right up but runs rough. sputtering, bogging down, lack of full power. I immediately thought carb and cleaned it up on the bench, replacing the needle valve and resetting the floats, etc. Still same problem. Now I'm rethinking carb and thinking maybe something in the ignition system.

Any thoughts?

I went through the forums here and found posts on ignition system replacements but didn't find anybody that had the same problem after doing a swap. It was a really straightforward repair and pretty hard to screw up.

take side covers off and spray carb cleaner at boot that goes from engine to carb while its running , if engine sppeeds up or slows down, boot is cracked,

Did you check the spark plug "gap" ? Are they the right ones? Put the old ones back in and try it...
