Electrical

Hello everybody!

I stumbled onto this website while doing a search for my machine.
I love the 700 x2; its got lots of power, it rides nice, and I use it for all kinds of things around my property.

I've owned it since new. Its my first quad. Generally its very reliable.

Has anyone else had electrical problems, specifically wiring?

Starting one month after the warranty expired (of course!), the 'check engine' light came on.
The t-bap sensor wires were chaffed/ damaged.
O.K. easy fix with a kit.
Next my center headlight went out. I thought 'no problem, I'll change the bulb'.
Nope, turned out to be a broken wire.
Just last week, while plowing snow, my winch wouldn't spool in (to bring the plow up). fortunately, I had a remote installed for the winch and it still worked, so I was able to finish plowing.
When I got the machine back into the garage, I grabbed the big wire bundle under the headlamp and gave it a wiggle while pushing the 'in' button and sure enough, the winch went, then quit again.

I'm starting to think I should have the entire harness replaced. It's only a couple years old and already has multiple splices in it. On the other hand, if I get another Polaris harness, I might be buying the same problem!

Is this common? did I some how get a dud harness?

Sorry for my long (first) post, any feed back greatly appreciated!

Jay

It's generally not the harness, but the way it's secured. If you want to replace the whole harness then make sure you add more zip ties to keep the harness from chaffing

OK, makes sense.
So the harness was poorly secured from the factory?
Or does the harness get secured by the dealer at final assembly?

they get the harness too tight around the steeering stem, then when you turn, it pulls wires in two, have to take front plastic off, cut all tie wraps and you will find some slack to dop alittle re-routing, Ive had to do this on a couple different efi bikes, its a pain but it works

O.K. Thanks!
I'll try to get to this this weekend and see how it goes!

Harness is done at the factory, not the dealer during PDI

wiring problem

A friend of mine had the same issues with his 800 touring. He had to replace the whole harness, insulation was cracking in multiple places. Polaris wouldn't cover it, warranty ran out a few months before.

I'm actually quite happy with the design of the harness on my 2011 X2. Polaris used good quality connectors. The only thing I'm unhappy about was the PDM(fuse box) they used, Delphi makes a sealed version, I don't know why Polaris went with the unsealed version.
