97 425 Magnum ? and a hello

I just found this forum and am glad I did. Lots of information here.

I bought a 97 425 Magnum last week for next to nothing and have a question. The guy I bought it from said it "quit running", gas in the tank fixed that. He said the transmission was "broke", a drive sprocket with actual teeth on it fixed that one. I went ahead and replaced chain, sprockets, bearings, brake pads and the belt. It runs like a scalded ape now.

My quandary is somewhere along the way a toggle switch was installed to turn on the cooling fan. I figure there's a sensor somewhere that went out to cause this redneck remedy (not there's anything wrong with that). My question is does anybody know what might have gone bad that I could replace rather than rely on the toggle?

Thanks in advance for any input

there is a fan temp. switch ,that is quite common at failing, causing this problem. It is located at the radiator, either right or left side, you'll see the sensor and wires, not cheap to replace, oem is about $60., there is an automotive aftermarket switch that fits, maybe someone will chime in on that part number-fits a toyota

its located at top of radiator on 425, behind radiator cap can get one from o'reilly's #17-1077 IDT, I have not personally tried that # it was given to me by a friend, might take old one out and take with you to see if they are the same, may have to change the plugs on the end

Hey, thanks so much for the help. I have a friend who works at O'reilly's, I will get him to bring one home and see if it works.
