02 sportsman 500 starting/charging probs.

New mem and absolutely love this site.
I have a 2002 sportsman 500 h.o. 4wd.
It starts right up when it's cold. After
riding for a few minutes i turn it off and then
it won't even turn over. I let it cool off for an
hour or so then it fires right upbatteries. Also the battery
is not being charged at all. I've tried several
batteries so I know the battery is good. The compression
is good as well. I've talked to several mechanics
who are stumped as am I. If anyone has an
idea please help me out.

need a miltimeter to see how battery is, should be 12.3 or more volts when shut off, should show 13.5 -14.4 when running and reved up a little, if not charging , its usually voltage regulator, located in front of radiator.

thanks for the welcome. i've already replaced the voltage regulator with no change.
sorry that i forgot that on my original post. now i have listed everything i've tried.

if voltage regulator is good, probably Stator or broken wire some where, do you have a manual? would help you trouble shoot
