Replacement CV boot question
I was going to get a bunch of CV boot kits for my '02 500, but I got to thinking, Since all the boots on my machine still have the original "good" re-useable style clamps that you fasten with needle nose pliers, would I be better off buying just the boots, and then getting CV grease in bulk from an auto parts store?

I personally just buy the boot kit...that way if i ruin a clamp (they dont always come off the easiest) that i will have it with the kit.
Also, the clamps/ boots are different sizes...front and back, and inner and outer
Thats for an 09 though. I would figure they would be similar to mine for your 02

Well, the front clamps and boots were just taken off a couple months ago by the atv mechanic that I have do stuff that's beyond me, so I doubt i'll have trouble but that is a good point so i'll make sure to have extra clamps.
One of the main reasons i'm considering not buying the kits is the number i'd have to buy. 1 for the front on my '98 that my buddy is buying soon, 1 spare for the front on my '02, replacements for the right rear outboard and left rear inboard that just got torn the other day, and spares for rear in&out. Seems like alot of $$$ for individual packets of grease and "garbage" clamps

clamps are like 8 bucks for the big ones and like 5 for the smaller ones. and the boot kits where i get them (07 700 efi)=35$ and (09 800 efi)=45$ so i dont know how much yours would be.

I priced it out and by buying just the boots and also the clamps (as you suggested) instead of the kits I'm saving about 30 bucks. Every little bit helps right?

Fast Boot Kits from Ebay. $20.00. Free shipping. Boot comes with grease, two clamps, instructions, and a tool to tighten clamps.

Well if your going to be buying a lot of them, and think your existing clamps will be reusable, i wouldnt buy a clamp for each....just like 3 clamps per 5 boots or something. I just know from having 3 wheelers... (07 700 efi and two 09 800 efi) that extra clamps are never wasted! But IMO if you feel like the clams you have are good enough, i personally dont want to make you to buy more.
And yes...30 bucks is 30 bucks! Savings are always good!

Ok, thanks for the advice! I do think the original clamps should be good, but I'll order a couple extra like you said.
