need help please!!
hello everyone, i hope this isn't one of those topics that's been beat to death but, i have a 2002 sportsman 400. it has the infamous creep problem that i am pretty sure is a belt problem. my main question is that i have ebs on this bike and i cant find any belts anywhere!! all i can find is 04 and up, also i took it all apart yesterday to find the problem and the primary clutch is dated 2004.. so does this mean i can use an 04 belt? its been driving me crazy.... any help would be awesome.... i am almost certain that someone put a non ebs belt on it and i was to stupid lastnite to get the part number off of the belt before i put it back together..

that # is for non-ebs , look on cycle parts warehouse, 04-400, under driven clutch, shows @3211095 for ebs, if new beltt doesnt fix it , probably ebs washers or alighn ment, post back and let us know the # 3211069 belt will work too

that part number should be 3211077 and it is a non EBS belt. If a polaris partsman don't know if it is a EBS or not it must be his first day at work. Polaris has used the 3211077 belt for years. I would be scared to buy anything from them. If you have EBS you need a 3211069 belt. I would suggest you look at your vin and double check the year model. In 2004 they made a Sportsman 400 with EBS. Tell the dealer you need a discount for having to come up with part # of belt. You know you can buy a belt at a parts store. Gates brand. PL30071 replaces the 3211077 and PL30072 replaces the 3211069.
a 3211069 and the 3211095 is the same belt just different numbers.

if you still have belt cover off, put bike in nuetral, rev motor enough to make clutches spin, let them stop and see if belt is running on one side or the other of primary clutch, if it is ,add or remove a washer from behind secondary clutch to get belt centered, if that and slowing Idle down doesnt fix it, ebs washers are probably bad, need special tools to get primary apart to change these, if you can pull the primary off, dealers usually dont charge too much to do it

As mentioned previously I would back the idle down. That stopped all my creeping problems. To fast an idle causes the clutch to start engaging the belt.

I still cant get this bike to stop creeping... i have check shims by adding and removing. still no luck. is there any way this could be a secondary problem?? Its driving me crazy that i cant figure this out!! I can tell that the belt will try and ride one side of the primary causing it to climb up and cause the creep... but like i said i checked the shims behind the secondary and really didn't have any luck with it. But to be honest im not real sure where you line them up to.. i guess the secondary should be center of the primary one way pully??
any help would be awesome cus im about sick of googleing
