general winch wiring question

how does everyone wire in a generic winch?

i have the winch, and a switch to control it. i have a feeling 30A relays are not going to be enough when under load. if i use a solenoid, do i need one for FWD, and one for reverse?-or can one control both directions somehow?

SPARE: 2000 Kawasaki Bayou 220: red, HF 2500lb winch, Sur-trak rear tires, rear basket, bought new in '00, has about 1 million miles on it...
