06 sportsman 700 front diff pop

Just recently my front differential will start popping really loud after i get going faster then 3mph .it sounds like the fender is hitting the tire.im assuming its the diff and im not noticing any awd problems its just a loud bindingclunk sound.any ideas?

Are you sure its the differential or is it an axle popping? Might be able to tell more if you put it up on jacks and try to determine where it's coming from while spinning wheels by hand and under power while taking it in and out of AWD.

Ya i put it on jacks and spun the tires and i dont hear anything

Have you changed the differential oil recently? If it's not an axle could be the roller cage in the differential busted and causing popping noise (common issue). About the only way to tell is to pull the diff. and split it apart and take a look. I have an 05 700 that I took apart due to AWD not working properly. It ended up being my speedo was not working properly. I still replaced the cage and roller bearings while it was apart.

If you do remove the diff. and find parts broken, you can get the parts from John Deere and save yourself about $300-400. If you do a search on here someone has all the part numbers listed from John Deere.
