Shifting

Have an 06 800 having trouble finding reverse most of the time not all the time but when it does not work its annoying as hell. had the clutches aligned and inspected, idle is 1150, tried different belts, had the cover off where the shift shaft goes in and all marks are lighned up proper.Does anybody have any suggestions before I open a case of beer and ripp this tranny out LMAO.Can i take out the shift shaft assemble without removing the tranny is the real question then that would make it simple.

Ok had the tranny out and apart found a bad bearing changed it and reinstalled the tranny.Still have same problemthe ransmisiion shifts into and out of all gears perfectly fine untill you start it. hits forward park neutral and reverse sometimes but most times just rrattle. If I hold the secondary from turning it seems to kick in. But then if I remove the belt and spin the secondaryby hand really fast and slam it into any gear it works every time. Hook up the belt start it and does not shift into reverse again Now just so you knoe the dealer alighned the clutches in spring and i have an actuall polaris belt on.

any help would be appreciated
I Purchased this bike with a clutch kit not sure what it is could this do this type of prob?

Well I think it is a clucth -belt issue if i spin the secondary with a drill is simulates the same issue I think there is to much pull on the secondary clutch.I measured the distance from center to center and it is at 9 3/4 any suggestions on what to do next dont mind spending the money on a new kit if it solves the prob.

Ya already had it at my local dealer and paid them to fix the problem..... when it was still there they told me my tires are to big.Nothin like a few hundred dollars so they can explain to you that 28 inch tires are to big for an 800.....And how the hell will that affect shifting anyway

i dunno to be honest how bigger tires would effect shifting...should have asked them to explain it better

Ya they don't care and you know what when I by an 850 they will not get the sale for it.

But back to the belt issue my manual says that it should be 10" center to center mine is lucky if it is 9 3/4 the one way bearing works well in the primary. And the belt rides up in the secondary about 3 1/16 over the sheeves.I am thinking that if I make that tighter and drop it into the secondary farther. How much slack should there be on that belt when installed?Or should it be fairly tight?
