What does it mean when codes are stored but check engine light not on

Hi

If an error occurs in the EFI system the ECU stores error codes in the ECU memory and turns on the check engine light. But does anyone know what it means if error codes are stored in the ECU memory but the check enigne light doesnt come on. Does it means the codes are old, stored earlier but no longer valid or does it mean the error is not qualified enough to turn the check engine light on. Or what does it mean?

The codes are likely old. If the first digit is "0" then it's the oldest...the next error code will start with a "1" and so forth up to 9. (you scroll through with the Mode button)
The next part of the code will be 2-6 digits in length which is the Suspect Parameter Number (SPN).... your manual may give you the fault code issue.
I think the only way to clear the codes is to have the "Digital Wrench"...at the dealer.
If the Check Engine light isn't on then is not currently receiving any faults...assuming the check engine light is working.
