New owner of a used 05 Scrambler here- This idea of having to prime the oil pump is a bit concerning.
Is there a way to know if the pump is NOT properly primed and working? I'd hate to ride and ride without the oil pump working and would like a warm fuzzy in this area...

Take the cover off and pull the little hose that goes toward the engine. Start it and see if some oil starts to spurt out. If so, you should be good to go. If nothing ever comes out then you have issues.
You can add some oil to gas in tank if not sure, maybe add to 1/2 gallon of fuel so that when everything is working properly you can just fill tank & not worry about extra oil. You can remove line into pump from tank to see if oil is coming out, that way you know there is oil at pump.
