04 600 sportsman bogging out

Hey guys, I knew when I joined I should have never said Polaris gives me no problems without knocking on some wood.....but it finally did. I'm hoping it's minor. The machine runs like it should until you hammer the throttle then it bogs so bad it almost dies, let off and it purrrrrs. Runs great at low speeds/rpm, but high speed/rpm just ain't happening. I'm hoping to look into it this weekend. So much for weekend camping. But hey, my wife's 600 is fine, I wonder how far out the garage I'll get with it......hee he

Have you checked the air filter? Check for any clogs in the air box intake tube..

Cool

did this happen all at once or did it get worse over time and is it carb or efi im guessing its carb. if it happened kinda quick and you havent driven it check your airfilter might have mice nest in there or you exhaust too.

first check to make sure your air filter is clean and replace if in doubt as stated below. the next step would probably to clean your carb

Thnx all, It has a carburetor. Yea I checked the air cleaner as a pre-ride walk around check, seemed ok. Will probably change it now. It started fine and ran ok when loading, but I didn't really cowboy it at this time. Once unloaded and ready to hit the trail is when I noticed the bog. I did put gas in it from a can that was probably 3 months old, so that may have something to do with it. Have not checked for a clogged air box inlet. Thnx for the ideas

yes, that was probably your problem right there. with fuel stabilizer fuel that old is bad for your machine. now im guessing the carb needs cleaning

I had to change out the main jet and needle for the jet kit I bought and I was amazed how filthy the carb was. I'm actually surprised it was still running. It was the first time the carb has been off my 04, so yours (nowhereman) is also probably due for a cleaning.

Nice day to be in the garage, so I cleaned the air box, checked for clogs, cleaned the filter sock, replaced the air filter, put in fresh gas. Still bogs bad at about 25mph. Removed the carb and stripped it down for a good bath, still bogs. Replaced the spark plugs, same problem. Machine starts like a champ and runs perfect at low speeds, even has good power. I wonder if spark plug wire resistance is breaking down at higher rpms? Anyone have ideas or experience this problem and have a fix? I ran it by my local shop and of course all they wanted was for me to bring it in...This problem just happened all of a sudden to. Had no problems on last trail ride, parked it, took it out for a ride and bam, problem. Thnx for any help guys.

An update on my progress.
Well, I know it's not plug wires now....the next thing I'll try is adding a little 2 cycle to the gas, a friend thinks it might be a sticky valve??? I don't think it's the cam, there is no popping or backfiring. Open to ideas.
