I noticed the coolant level in the resevoir slowly decreasing(over months, occassional use, short periods). checked oil one day, looked funny, green.... Drove it around the next couple of days, 10 minutes at a time tops, noticed it about 1/4 inch below minimum line on coolant resevoir, checked oil stick, obvious water in oil, noticed ticking noise in front left area too. I assume that is not good!
Where to a start? water pump? ....

could be. If it is you will have to remove the engine and split the crankcases to service the water pump shaft and shaft seals. You best hope it's a head gasket instead!

It runs fine. NO smoke, starts right up.......Had I not noticed the coolant level going down, I would keep running it.

Should I just assume it is the head gasket and replace it? I just ordered the Clymer maintenance manual, do I need anything else. The maintenance mechanic at my school has offered to repair it.
