xpedition 425 won't reverse
Just bought an xpedition 425 out of an auction. It didn't come with a manual and I can't seem to find one on the internet except for the "manual supplement" on the polaris website. I have found that the override switch also serves somehow to put the ATV in reverse, but I can't seem to make it go in reverse. With the ATV in neutral a simple pressing of the OR/Reverse switch does nothing. With the ATV in neutral, I've tried holding the switch while pulling up on the shift lever (puts the ATV in forward 1st) and holding the switch while pulling up on the shift lever (which does nothing). At this point I'm not exactly sure if something is not working properly and/or if I am not doing something right. Also, I've noticed that the speedometer is not working if that makes any difference (I've noticed in some other threads that the speedometer has caused the AWD not to work).

the override/reverse button does this. if you are in 4x4 mode and in forward gear, everything operates normal. when you put the machine in reverse, it automatically goes out of 4x4, even with the switch in 4x4. you also have a rev limiter on reverse that keeps you to about 10mph. if you want to get ride of the rev limiter and have 4x4 in reverse, you press and hold the button down, and for as long as it is held down, you will have 4x4 in reverse and will not have the rev limiter. but i plays no role in getting the machine to go into reverse.
first thing i would do is check all the shift linkage all the way to the tranny case. check for anything lose. if you push on the trany shift linkage by hand, will it go into reverse? it might just be the linkage is mis adjusted and doesnt have the reach to push the lever back far enough

Those Expeditions are so bad, you don't need reverse, drive over everything(kidding).
if the reverse actuator is working properly, put it in nuetral, hold in override button(this activates the actuator),and one push down on the foot shift and viola ,you're in reverse.
if the reverse actuator is not working, shift to neutral, and on the right side by the rope pull is the actuator, give that lever a pull back and while you pulling back ,push foot shift down for reverse.

You'd be surprised what I've driven over in leu of getting off and pushing the ATV by hand.
Good advice...Looks like the actuator is not working, because manually pulling the lever back lets the ATV go to reverse. Probably will try and diagnose the problem tomorrow (switch, wiring, actuator, etc). Any advice on how to proceed? Can a non-functional speedometer have anything to do with the problem?

A 12 volt testlight or a voltmeter is all you need to check the actuator, just unplug the connector at the bottom, hook you test leads to those wires ,turn the key on and vehicle in nuetral ,push override button in and you should have juice.they are not cheap to replace
if the speedometer, odometer and trip are ALL not working then it is most likely the pickup sensor on the right front, there is a test for this but i don't remember where i put it to send it to you.
shop around for parts: dealer, babbits, cheap cycle parts

Definitely have juice...guess I have a bad actuator.
Will the AWD work w/out the speedometer?
