06' sportsman 500 goes dead after 3 sec.

When i turn the key from off to on position the LCD screen comes on then i here a fast ticking noise then the LCD screen goes out and the atv is dead. the whole time my battery is reading a little better than 12v. no draw down or anything. this problem came out of the blue. any ideas let me know.
