Suspected 2006 Magnum 330 ECM problems

Hello!

I have been looking around for hours to understand what I should do with a problem with my ECM unit (in MY06 Magnum 330 4x4)...

I have the ECM unit with part no 4011088. My problems are as follows:

- the oil cooler fan runs constantly as long as battery is connected.
- "HOT" warning does not appear in the speedometer (although it should if the thermistor is disconnected).
- charging voltage is constantly 14.6-14.8 V, not 13.0-14.6 as spec'd for 3000-4000 rpm.

I think this clearly indicates a fault with the ECM? (I have checked the fan motor wiring from the ECM and it is good.)

Now I see there has been recalls for ECM units but not for 2006 Magnums, however I think this is the same part number as used in 2005 models?

Polaris VIN checker does not show any service bulletins for my VIN. Should this have been changed due to a recall? (The dealer does not exist anymore.)

And what is the correct replacement part number? I see both 4011088 and 2203128 being sold, is 2203128 the improved part?

Are all 4011088 bad (as I could have locally a used 4011088 part)?

Is the current fault dangerous; what if I just add an on-off switch for the fan and let it be like it is?

Many thanks for all info (and for the great forum)!

If ecm is black and says ducati on it replace it, the new ones are surefire,The fans running with key off was what caused some machines to catch fire, that triggered the recall.

The current unit is black and by Surepower (Made in China).

So was the recall only for Ducati units?

I think this is not the case here as the "HOT" indicator should also be on when thermistor is unplugged, according to Service manual.

Also the wrong charging voltage makes me think it is the ECM.

Call any dealer and have them run your vin. You won't be allowed to do the swap if it is under recall anyway.

...checked with dealer, this is not under recall according to them although they have a "Service note" or something on those...

I bought a 2203128 then from eBay.

Ok, got my new ECM from eBay. Unfortunately it was still the old, black one (similar to one I had). Well anyway installed it and works OK with regards to the fan.

But the charging voltage is still around 14.6V with idle RPMs...is this a problem?

Charging voltage has nothing to do with ecm. Voltage regulator controls the output from the stator. Should hold steady between the voltages you listed earlier. 14.6 is perfect.
