Piece of crap 03 Sportsman 400

I think my sportsman is cursed.

A little history.
I bought from a guy. I never rode it before I bought it. He had it a shop, he said if I pay the tab at the mechanics, ($500), I could buy it from him for another $500. 1k total. So know I own a 03 Sportsman 400.

When I first got it, it started up fine. With the pull start that is, Electric start is non working. I could only ride it for 10/15 minutes or so. As soon as it got warmed up, it ran like absolute crap. About 3mph top speed. It did this for everytime for a while. Then i broke the pull start cord so I took it to the mechanic.

The mechanic cleaned the carb and the gas tank and gave it some fresh gas. Fixed the broke cord. Gave it a new spark plug and a new fuel filter. Well the atv does the same thing. Runs till its warm, then just refuses to run. Bogs down to a crawl, no torqe or power. Does this every ride, everytime.




So the Sportsman sits for a while. Month or two. I go to ride it, and it runs fine... Ok? So its fixed itself??? Not really. I started it up, It will not Idle. It Idled fine before, one of the few things it DID DO RIGHT. So it won't idle now, BUT, now it runs fine while driving, I can ride it and when it warms up, it doesnt bog down like before.

I ride it for an hour, till it overheats. Now it has an Idle and overheating issue. AND I broke the pull start cord AGAIN


What are your thoughts? That shop had a new mechanic, which i think is an idiot. They couldnt fix the motor gettin warm and bogging out, despite about 3 separate attempts. It fixed ITSELF and now has a different set of problems, im speechless


Can yall give me a diagnosis

i think i'd get the electric start working first ,then check the fan-slash-cooling system,then look at the carb. again.
could check the throttle control ,see if it's out of adjustment
