1985 polaris trail boss

Hello all,

I've been reading here for awhile, but now need the collectives help!

I've tried searching for my problem, but have not found anything definitive.

I recently acquired the aforementioned 1985 trail boss 250, rebuilt the carb, replaced the crank seals, set the timing to the specified 23.5 btdc and also tried everything from 21-27 degrees as well.

Problem is, this runs like a scalded ape UP to 1/2 throttle, (appears to max out in rpm) anything over 1/2 throttle and it completely bogs out.

What am I missing here?

is there any way to test the c.d.i. for proper spark advance?

This is a loaded question but here are some things that might help you out. Sounds like a needle valve going bad or possible wrong main jet also check the needle position. One other thing it could have the wrong clutching. [There is no way to test the cdi.]
