Question 07 sportsman, Help, my son left the key on!

I'm new here, but what a great site. My son left the key on, to my sportsman 500HO, and when I tried to start it there was a click, click, nothing. I charged the battery and still nothing, not even a display. The shop mach. told me to buy a new battery, I did and with a charge, still nothing. So I need some help, could it be the starter, a switch, or is there a fuse that I have not found?
Thanks, Ted

Your switch seems to work, so I don't think that's the problem.
You're getting power, so it's not the breaker.
Normally I'd say it's the solenoid next, but the display wouldn't be affected by that.
Have you checked your relays? That would be my guess.
After that it can get expensive. Possibly the ecu/ecm.

You said yours was an 07 500 HO? I can't find anything listed for a HO in 07, only EFI models.
Look at your VIN# and count left to right 10 digits. That digit is your year model. EX: 6 would be 2006, and 7 would be 2007.

Thanks for the response, you are rite I have a 500EFI. I am going now to check the starter relay with an ark of the two post, check battery volt.., and search again for a fuse. I guess that's a picture of you Razor, so let me say thank you for your service to our country, still the greatest Nation in the world, and always worth fighting for!
I welcome any more idea's that anyone might have out there.
Thank's again, Ted

Thanks for that. I was in the National Guard for 8 years and did two tours in Iraq. That's a pic my gunner snapped of me right after we got back in from a mission.

You can't check the relays like that. I think you're thinking of the starter solenoid. The relays look like this http://www.ripper1.com/tech/wiring/bosch_relay02.jpg and should be up under the front plastic with all your other electronics. The only way to check them is to get a new one and replace them one at a time and see if it solves your problem.

The starter solenoid looks like this Google Image Result for http://www.mfgsupply.com/img/atv/smu6004.jpg. If it's clicking when you try to start it, then it's making contact and should be working.

Try the relays first. Should be both the easiest, and cheapest fix.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I'm having a similar issue.

Mines also an 07 EFI. When I crank it, it might run for a min or 10 seconds to a min then lose all power to everything, just like I pulled the battery off. Sometimes it'll crank sometimes it wont. Does that sound like a relay also?

When it cranks it runs fine, but every time it loses power and dies.
