Question 06 500 X2 Pump/Pod/Power problems

This problem started when I needed a new battery. Atv had all the symptoms of a dead battery, it would start with the hand recoil. I load tested the battery, and it was bad. Replaced with a new batt.

Now the fun begins...

Turning the key to run, you can hear the normal power-up noises related to the efi, but the fuel pump sounds very loud. the pod flashes and then it re cycles like you turned the key off and back on, that is all it does, it will not let you start the quad.

I rechecked the new battery and it is ok.

I thought I had a bad fuel pump by the noise it was making, so I checked for power at the three pin connector under the front access panel. from the PCM I had 10.6 vdc?........ I checked all connectors for fit and no problems found. Next I applied an isolated supply of 12vdc to the fuel pump to check it, and go figure it is fine, it sounded as it should and is pumping great.

I now moved on to the Pod to start checking, as power is now on my mind.
I removed the large connector from the pod and per the trouble shooting flow chart checked pins 1 and 8 for 12vdc, I had 14vdc. the service manual states the pod will auto shut down if over voltage is present.

So I have to much voltage at the pod and not enough at the fuel pump, Looking at the schematics I have to keep thinking the PCM is bad?

I have another good 07 X2 that I could use for parts troubleshooting, but I am afraid of ruining its parts if it is something else??? would it be safe to swap PCMs?

I am asking for advice, I would hate to buy a 150 dollar Power control mod and it be something else. Does my troubleshooting make sense to the experienced mechanics out there? Am I missing anything.

Thanks, I cant wait to figure this out and ride again!

-Mike

Sounds like you're right on track. You didn't mention checking your relays. You might try that, but I"m thinking you probably need a new brain.

Thanks, I will check into the relays. I think that is all housed in the power control module also though. I cannot find any physical relays.

You have one good 500 and one bad. OK so to swap parts DO NOT take parts from the good machine and put them on the bad ATV for testing. Do it the other way. Take the suspected bad controller and install it on the good machine. If it works, look to another part or connector for the problem. If it doesn't work you found your problem. But if you take parts from the good machine and put them on the bad machine you may damage the good parts if over voltage hits the good part. I have two SP 500's, one an 07 and the other an 08 and that's how I would trouble shoot a parts swap. Good luck.

Thanks Jupiterak,

I am going to look at that tonight, I will start with the pod over to the good machine, and move on from there.

Hey Did you happen to solve this? My unit is doing the exact same thing. It has also been stalling at idle, runs fine when giving it gas.
Thanks! (i was thinking i'd have to get an expensive fuel pump)
