my manual doesn't go back that far ,but i will give you what i have for a '98 400.
the pilot screw needs to be 1 1/2 turns out. idle speed 600-700 rpm
the pilot screw setting is just a guideline to get you started,achieve your highest, smoothest idle,then back in 1/4 turn.
the pilot screw and idle speed are both on the right side of the carburator. pilot or air screw you will need a smaller straight blade screwdriver. the idle screw is normally a knob style and can be set with your fingers. both of these adjustments should be done with the engine warmed up and the air cleaner housing installed.
