gas leak

hey just bought a 2000 500 sportsman and on bottom of carburetor there is a nipple that looks like it suppose to have a hose on it...well this one doesnt and it is leaking gas liek crazy! does it need a hose and where does the hose go? any help thanks guys

I believe that nipple is to put a hose on to drain the carb bowl.
Take a look above it and look for a screw, see if it's loose and tighten it.

Edit:Is the nipple sort of where the Red arrow is, if it is look for the screw where I have the Blue arrow.

hey so i found the screw and tried to tighten it up but it didnt stop the leak...does this mean i need a new screw and new bowl or what? its my dads 4 wheeler so i know nothing about it mine is efi

Sorry, I can't answer that, your post caught my eye as I recently did work on a 2005 Trail Boss 330 I bought. In the manual it stated to drain the bowl for long storage, this wasn't ran much at all and it was never drained. I drained it to get the old gas out.

Maybe more experienced will answer this for you. I never took the screw all the way out , just loosened it enough to drain. Possibly it has a gasket of some sort on the end and went bad..........posibly.

Floats in carb are probably stuck

04 predator 500 big bore kit' jet kit full big gun exhaust k&n air box delete kit rev max cdi fox podium shocks all the way around full skid plates and maxis tires

floats and or needle and seat. that carb is going to probably need to be taken apart and clean

Regarding the nipple that shawnboy87 mentioned and I replied about, is this nipple used for 2 things the over flow & drain? Should there be a hose connected at all times for a possible over flow problem?

The hose just keeps gas from spilling onto hot engine
