Problems with my Sportsman 500
I just bought a brand new 2010 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. like 3 days ago. Suddenly the engine keeps dying. I know it has to do with the fuel because the RPM's are too low. I have to adjust the flow of the fuel to increase the RPM's but they decrease every 5 seconds. Why is this happening?

Check the cable that runs from your throttle into the headlight pod. There is a "nut" in the cable that you can turn and adjust the idle. At least that was the problem on mine. It kept dying if I let off of the throttle any.

Yeah I adjusted a chrome knob-like nut to the left side of the quad to regulate the flow. And it works only for the first ignition. After you run it for at least 100', it dies on idle.

too lean of jetting?
or also on the carb you have and idle screw that will do minor adjustments to the RPM of the motor. it might be enough though

Considering it's only been 3 days - is your dealer close by? If you can't fix it with minimal effort, perhaps its best to let them deal with it.

Yeah. I just dropped it off at my dealer today and it seems that the carburetor was faulty. They say it's going to take about a week to get it fixed.

It's Wednesday, and I became a new Polaris owner last Saturday.... With in the first ten minutes of having my new bike home it died twice in idle. I have already taken it back to the dealers service shop on Tuesday. I bought the bike after getting good feedback from friends and family that own Polaris bikes. People I trust. So trust me when I say I am not bashing Polaris. I certainly wouldn't have bought a Polaris machine if I didn't think it was a good buy. But I am getting more nervous by the day, considering it's almost been in the shop as long as I've owned it. Not to mention, I have kept it under 35 mph, it's been dry the whole time and babied over all in the two hours I rode it. All eleven miles. I am just looking for an answer as to what it could be that makes it cut off. A peace of mind. And if anyone has had a similar issue in the first days of ownership I would like to know how you handled it and how the dealership helped you handle it. I appreciate any and all advice on the matter.
I suppose if it was something very simple to fix, I would have the bike back and running well by now... Thanks
