Ive ridden taylor park alot, but not ridden even half of the trails up there. Also i ride the san carlos trails west of Pueblo. I have read some about the alpine loop up by lake city but havn't been there yet, i plan to as soon as the snow melts this spring. Oh i also ride texas creek some...

Most of my riding experience is north of where you have been...Rampart, Summit County and Central City areas. I highly recommend Summit, especially N & S Fork areas east of Breckenridge. The loop around Red Cone into the E & S side of Keystone and Montezuma.

I rode the Alpine Loop out of Lake City this past summer. Great ride, but unfortunately I got High Altitude Pulmonary Edema and got a free ambulance ride up to Gunnison. The trails were awesome, my RZR 4 did great up there. It does get cold on the tops but the vally was nice. I'd bring an extra can of gas, and rain gear b/c it rained and snowed on my up there. BTW, Im planning on another trip back there this summer to finish up what I started. If you go, make sure your approved to ride on the road or you will only be able to go into Lake City. Ouray & Silverton doesn't allow OHV use unless your atv has a license plate. Here's a few pix:

If you want information on riding in Colorado go the atvquadsquad.com - Powered by Social Strata an read and ask questions in the "Rocky Mtn Rock Hoppers" section. This is the site for the Colorado Riders especially Taylor Park. I have posted this somewhere else on this site but you can go to Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire or GPSFileDepot - Custom Maps, Ximage hosting, tutorials, articles and more for your GPSr and download my Taylor Park ATV Trails map and tracks. The map works great on Nuvi's. Also below are the links to videos we took in Taylor Park last Sept. Antero, Italian, and Punchbowl are down right scary.

Yes...go to the Breckenridge Golf Course keep heading east past it for another few miles until you see some parking areas along teh river, unload and ride. Take North or Middle Fork due east up towards Red Cone. From North Fork, you can head north into the back of Keystone. Else, after Red Cone area keep going until you get to Montezuma which is also another area to park if you want to start there and go back the other way. Down along the South Fork there is also plenty of great riding.

Lots of maps are available of the area. Best to hit it in Jul-Sep.

Colorado Trails

I recommend the purchase of the ATV trails books from Charles Wells. If you aren't familiar with him, he lives in the Monument area north of Colorado Springs. He has a series of books for both "jeepers" and ATVs. His website is FunTreks Guidebooks. Each book has a lot of trails, with photos, maps with trail ratings, GPS waypoints. And he has ridden each and every trail in all of his books. No 2nd or 3rd hand info there. There are two ATV books for Colorado and a 3rd just for Taylor Park/Crested Butte. There are a number of clubs in the state that will probably be a good source of info, also. We belong to the Royal Gorge club from Canon City. Their website is Royal Gorge ATV Club
