Hatfeild & Mccoy Trail System

I was looking for a little help on the trail system, I joined there forum but not a lot of help there, seems not to many people are on there. Anyway, I would like to plan a trip up there, just looking for some info. I run a 850 xp and for now the wife rides behind me. Is this a major problem, riding two people on a single up there? Next one is camping, I pull a 5th wheel, so what would be the best place to stay at? Any help would be great. Thanks

not sure about there...but many ATV parks that I have been to DO NOT allow 2 riders unless the machine is designed for it...

I'll be watching this thread too, been planning a trip down there this summer, looking for a place to camp as well

I realize that most ATV parks don't allow it. Just looking at different pictures there are a bunch with people riding on the back. I have the rack seat but I know that does not make it a two up. I was just hoping that being WV it would be a good ole boy type of place.

It will be find to carry one atv. Bring plenty of gas. Its a nice place where you wont ride the same trail twice. They are always building new trails. I went up their with my polaris scrambler 400 and my toy hauler. Its a fun place enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are two great campgrounds that I know of. One is Twin Hollow Campground in Gilbert. It is on the trail system. You will park your truck and never use it again. You can ride your ATV into Gilbert for Gas, groceries, restaurants, etc. You can also ride to Man and eat and fill up there.
The other is the Ashland Resort in Ashland near Northfork. This is on the Indian Ridge system and has a connector to the Pinnacle Creek system. The "Outlaw" Trails are between these two systems. Both are extremely nice.
Below is a link to a site where you can download a Garmin Transparent Map of the HM systems, Burning Rock, and the Outlaw trails. The map has over 1200 miles and 150 wpts. The latest maps is called "All WV ATV Trails 1.6". There are also some other files you can download that may be helpful. The map will also load the original GPS tracks onto your computer.

I have ridden the Paiute Trails in Utah and the Taylor Park, CO trails and I believe the WV trails are the best.

Uh you can't ride double on the Hatfield trails unless your atv is designed for 2 people or if you don't mind paying some sort of fine if your caught by a ranger. Yes you will see people riding those trails that don't obey the rules. Most that don't obey the rules usually are just too stinking cheap to buy a $50 yearly permit or just happen to accidently get on the trails. I know people who have had to pay a $150 fine by not having the permit. I like the ones who have $40 to $80 worth of beer strapped to their rack but are too freakin cheap to buy a permit.

I try to go several times a year since I am only about 4.5 hours from there ... sooo awesome ... One of the best campgrounds I have stayed at is the Ashland Resort ... I used to stay there when it was the Ashland KOA and they are now separated from KOA ... perfect location for riding the trails especially now that there is a connector between the two trail systems there! I have been to HM porobably 30 times or so, to all the different trail systems, and every time I go I see loads of people riding double on machines that is not made for it and have never heard of anyone getting "busted" for it .... mind you, I ride an X2 which I bought just for that purpose and I would probably be the first to get busted ... lol ... there are also lots of places that you can rent from over there if you wanted to get one for your wife if you want to stay legal.

Later ... Sneyeper

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like its going to be a blast. Seems like you can buy permits just about anywhere. I guess its one of those deals where I will just take my chances on the passenger and see how it goes. Worst case I hang out around the outlaw trails. Trying to get up there near middle of March.
