Yep, welcome to the ram rod! Our forest service did this up here when our county Commissioners gave in to them.
After years of our County Commissioners saying “no!” to the forest service. The strong ones got voted out and the forest service seen a chance and pushed it. Now most of the Flaming Gorge area is CLOSED to ATVers and others! They did leave one spot open for ATVers a sad spot to say the least.
Thing is its already law that they do the closures (law past during Clinton era) they just waited till they can ram rod the local politicians to get the closures done without a bunch of public debate.
The crap they used is that if its a road they have to maintain it and therefore can’t afford to have redundant roads to the same places. Say goodbye to most ATV roads on public lands.
For the people in the east that help pass some of these laws that effect a few places 5% in a state back east..... well it effects 75%-90% of a state in the west. Thanks
They will be closing a spot near you, count on it! Just wait till the goverement controls every mudd puddle in your state! yep its working its way up into the laws. \o/ for another scary statement of many;
March 15: "This is the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of non-motorized," said US Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood to a League of American Bicyclists conference. "We are integrating the needs of bicyclists in federally-funded road projects." Sec. LaHood also announced key recommendations for state DOTs and communities:
Treat walking and bicycling as equals with other transportation modes.
Ensure convenient access for people of all ages and abilities.
Go beyond minimum design standards.
Collect data on walking and biking trips.
Set a mode share target for walking and bicycling.
Protect sidewalks and shared-use paths the same way roadways are protected (for example, snow removal)
Improve non-motorized facilities during maintenance projects.
April 16: President Obama's remarks at America's Great Outdoors Conference. "First, we’re going to build on successful conservation efforts being spearheaded outside of Washington-- by local and state governments, by tribes, and by private groups," Obama said. "Secondly, we’re going to help farmers, ranchers, property owners who want to protect their lands... Third, we’ll help families spend more time outdoors, building on what the First Lady has done through the “Let’s Move” initiative... And fourth, we want to foster a new generation of community and urban parks." Read the full text of the President's speech...
when they run out of money what road/trail will they close? You think this might effect your next ride?
