missouri atv laws

Hey everyone BLumbergh here,
i just wanted to check with everyone and try to find out a few things from everyone. i recently (last week) took ownership of a new 2011 sportsman 500. i am interested in doing a little trail riding and and i was interested in two things. first where are some good places to go in Missouri? i live in the St.Louis area and i want to stay within about an hour or so. second can someone give me a run down of the major ATV riding laws.

It depends on where you go, as far as the laws go. St. Joe State Park is a decent place to ride, you just need a flag and a helmet. It's in Park Hills, probably right at an hour from STL. Other than than, you can ride in some of the National Forest areas, like Sutton's Bluff, Palmers, ect, but the laws vary. In alot of cases you will need a permit from either the US Forest service or a county ATV permit where you will be riding. I know Sutton's Bluff (Centerville, MO) you have to get a permit from a gas station in town to ride there. Good place to go though as well.

St.joe has about the best bang for buck. they.ve got a big sand area , plenty of wooded trails,a couple mud pits. All day long fun

Cool thanks guys. i found some stuff online but it was fairly vague. about all i could figure as fact was that you had to have a helmet if you are under 18. the flag really didn't say you had to have it in every location. i guess it is better to pick one up then not. permits from a gas station in town seems sorta sketchy.. i guess it is what it is...
