New Rider in CT

Hey everyone, I just got a new polaris and want to know some places to ride it. I live in Eastern CT and can travel. I'm willing to pay to use parks and trails and what not. I also would like some information on registering a quad. If I register it in CT and travel to say NY, is that registration still good or is it like snowmobiles where every state has it's own registration. I know I wont always be riding on "legal" trails but I want to be as legal as possible. Any information will greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

I don't think there are any legal areas to ride in CT. My friends and I ride some corn fields and trails but would love explore other parts of the state if you find any where!

Hello & Welcome NEIGHBOR!!

Yea CT is NOT ATV friendly!! (I live here in CT too) I had same problem with my Jeep, NO WHERE TO LEGALLY RIDE!!! Unless you have your own property or now somewhere where owner gives permission on his/hers to ride, no there is nothing. Now know that CT has a number of excellent parcels just begging to allow ATVs, with miles of logging roads to offer. But at this time, NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES are allowed. Even the few SNO machine friendly trails are OFF LIMITS to ATVs and Jeeps! Every year this comes up in the legislature and every year they expect us to reg the vehicles so they can tax and THEN MAYBE they will open some land for use. CT IS MISSING THE BOAT IN A BIG WAY!!! EVERY one of the adjacent states sans maybe RI DO offer ATV trails and DO see the growing revenue stream it creates. The new Gov. Malloy is nothing buy a tax and spend Liberal, so don't expect any different at least for a couple more years. People are suprised at his antics... didn't they look at what he did to Stamford before they pulled that lever??? I guess NOT...Oh boy... (Don't get me started)

Anyhow..., Mass has a couple nice places, NY has a couple (Tug hill). But Pennsylvania has ALLOT to offer as does both VT and NH. All are ATV friendly. Now Maine is a outright ATV PARADISE!! (See the posts on the Jackman area trails) A state wide map is available free here: ATVMaine

As for the Reg, ALL the states I have mentioned will require reg in that state. IIRC Hatfield and McCoy requires a reg form your home state. But I believe as long as your registered your gonna ride. Know that they may require insurance too. (Its cheap)

Where are you located? I'm in the center of the state between Hartford and New Haven.

New Hampshire does have some nice trails. Check out this map.

http://www.nhstateparks.org/uploads/...p_2011_web.pdf

I'm familiar with Meriden Ct. and that's about 2.5 to 3 hours from Hopkinton/Everette trails which are pretty decent and there plenty of other places around New Hampshire to legally ride also.

Mornin man,
I have wheeled NH many times! You have a beautiful state, plus I LOVE the motto.. Live free or die!!

Mt. Monadnock and the surrounding areas have been allot of fun!! I have a friend with a house and some places to ride further up state but I haven't been up to see him... yet! he is on here... Easty is his name.

Thanks for the information, it is much appreciated. I couldn't agree more with cwlongshot on the politics side of riding. And by the way, I'm about a mile from Uconn campus but grew up in Mass so I have a few places right over the border.
