Wolf Pen Gap

I'm heading to Wolf Pen Gap in Mena, Ar. this Friday. Doing a day ride with 10 or so friends. 1st time there. Has anyone here ridden it lately? Just wondering if some of the trails are still closed?
Also, I welcome any advise from anyone who has ridden it (sites/trails not to miss, etc.).

we went a couple of weeks ago. there is a section of trail 6 that is closed where the two footed oak is. a section of 8 is closed on east that I always liked to go on. Hawks overlook is still open. at least I think that is what it was. It is off of trails 6. sign said for experienced riders only. there is one section of it that got a little steep but we made it up fine. It looked like you could still go up to the mine but we did not go.

Even with the sections that were closed I had a blast. we went down to little missouri falls but very little water there this time of year.

Take something to cover your mouth and nose. It can get extremely dusty when riding behind someone on some of the trails.

alcohol not allowed on trails. be careful not to go off the trails and be seen by rangers and get thrown out. been told there are some hidden cameras around.

I was going to go over to Fourche mountain area but we never made it. It would have been an all day venture. I heard the trails are not marked very good over there.

Tarantulas were out in full force this time at the campgrounds. two of them got a meet and greet with the bottom of my shoe.

Have a great time.

Can you still get to the 2-footed oak? I really wanted to get some pictures of that.
Do you believe the steep part at hawk's overlook is too steep for inexperienced riders? Got some guys that are borrowing 4-wheelers to go on this trip.

No. maybe you could ask the ranger if you could park at east trailhead and walk to two footed oak for photo. regarding hawks overlook that decision is up to you but I would have to say yes it is too steep for inexperienced riders.

You can park beside the road and walk down to the 2 footed oak without a problem.

On the rough part of Hawks if you take it easy and slow you should be OK. To me the roughest part of Hawks isn't the climb to get to the top it is all the rocks once you get there. If you have inexperienced riders just have a spoter and help each other at the rough part. You will know it when you get on top.

The trails aren't marked worth a crap at Fourche. It is so rocky I really don't care to ride there much any more. You can ride all the way from WPG to Fourche going through Cherry Hill. You can even stop at the little store in Cherry Hill for gas or burgers.
