Just a short time ago on a ride with my children, my son's ATV's brakes suddenly gave out, he could not slow down for a turn; his four wheeler went over the side of a hill with him holding tight. My son’s wheeler hit... a tree and threw him off. I was riding my own ATV behind him and I can’t even begin to explain how I felt when I saw he couldn’t slow down. Tears still fill my eyes when I think about this moment and “what if” fill my head. We maintain our machines; my son was wearing a helmet and was on a wheeler that was right for his size and skills. Luckily my son walked away with a few cuts and bruises however I still ask myself everyday what would have happened if he was seriously injured, how long would it take for us to get him out of the woods and in the hands of people that could help…
