Paiute ATV Trail System Utah, the Beaver Loop

I searched but i couldn't find any other place to post this, it's a ride report. If there is a ride report area then feel free to move this but i couldn't find any such section.

I went to Beaver, Utah Friday and Saturday to get my first taste of the Paiute ATV Trail System, i copied this from a webpage to give you an idea of the size of this trail system if you don't know.

The main trail is 275 miles long, with over 1000 miles of marked side trails and 1500+ estimated miles of side forest roads and trails. Due to its vast size, the Paiute ATV Trail is best explored in segments

All I did was the Beaver trailhead loop which by the way was only about 72 miles long but about 30 of that was a lot of rough two track. It’ll take about 8 hours to do this loop so good thing I decided to try an overnight ATV camping trip. This isn't the main trail BTW, it's one of those 1000+ miles of side trails I mentioned up there. Here’s the start, the ranger station said I could leave my truck parked overnight there so that made it easier and less worrying.

Still in the desert.

First of many water crossing and yes the green also starts.

If you see a sign like this you better listen to it as it gets tight.

Interesting, a ATV cattle guard

First of the many too come super steep trails, it’s hard to tell in the picture but it was steep.

The trail came up on a meadow.

I was a little lost here, but I figured it out.

I started heading down to Circleville Utah on the other side but it was a long way down and decided not to.

I stopped here for a rest and it’s where I turned around.

Here’s before I set up my camp ground.

It was next to a stream.

I decided to start a fire without a lighter or my mini-starter logs and Bear Grylls would have been proud. I only used the knife and flint.

The camp site set up.

Survivor Man wouldn’t be impressed as I cooked up some marinated Tri-Tips I brought along for dinner. Mmmm they were good.

I took a pic of myself with the stick I was carving to keep me busy.

Part 2

I got up early, packed up and rolled out.

Here’s a nice meadow with 2 different views.

Some water.

If you look close, there’s a deer out there.

I was coming through a meadow and saw this thing on tracks, I really couldn’t figure out what it was for, it overlooks the meadow in the pic after this one.

Another water crossing.

Found another good size creek.

A bridge just for ATV’s.

Part 3

It got really rocky here

Found this really good overlook of Beaver Utah and the Valley below.

The desert returns 

I saw some smoke and hope it’s a controlled burn.

And here’s the end.

Nice ride. I have the identical quad. Do you have stock tires? Did you have plenty of gas? The small tank and thirsty 850 concerns me some on a long ride. I would love to ride the Paiute. What is your next segment? I'm thinking of putting on Maxxis Bighorns but worry about the width--how much leeway on the 50" gates? What rear box did you buy?

Yep stock tires, I'll wear these out before i get different ones. They grabbed pretty good, it did get a little loose on a couple of really steep loose rock sections but no problem with speed.

I carried 4 extra gals and this was plenty of gas for the beaver loop. I think I'm going to get a couple of 3 gal rotopax and that should give me about 150 miles and 200+ if i use the 2 2gal ones with the 3 gal ones as well.

I think I'll try the Marysvalle Loop next time, I here thats a good track for others that have been on it.

As for the width I really didn't pay much attention, it fit right through all the gates and bridges with ease and have several inches on either side but i didn't notice how much.

For the box it's a 1up box i got from purepolaris.com (i think) that fits in the area when you remove the rear seat and it has a lot of room. Just look for a box that is a 1up for the 850 touring model.

Next I'll be getting a winch and front and rear brush gaurds for her and I think she'll be just fine then as stock she'll climb some steep hills with ease and it has lots of power.

Matt,

great pictures and description. i have almost the exact same set up with the 1up cargo box and fuel packs. i love my 850. great power and with my wife on the back i love the power steering. i built a framework to hold another storage box off the back when my wife and i ride together.

did you ride by yourself and camp? man those trails looked fun. one of these days i'd love to do something like that. we've ridden out in colorado 3 times and love it. i'd love to go to the paiute trails but its quite a bit farther from missouri.

thanks again for the great pictures!

Wow great write up and pictures Matt. Thank you! Did you see anyone else on the trail while you were riding those 2 days? I myself would love to take a one mans trip but I would be a little nervous to ride & camp alone just in case something happened. Do you carry tools and a extra belt just in case?
