Need help with 3 headlight MOD

I recently bought a 2002 Sportsman 700. First the top light doesnt seem to work so guessing its a bad bulb, so trying to figure out how to remove it and see what bulb number it takes to test it first.

Next after I make sure I get it working want to do the 3 light mod. Does anyone have a link on how to do this or a place that sells them because I see it has a relay.

Also does anyone know were i can find a manual for this model Polaris? Im wanting to change the plugs, oil ect..

Thanks!

I recently ordered and received this switch
Polaris Sportsman Three Headlight Mod -

Its quite well made, the installation instructions are clear and simple and Corey(Husky Motorsports) is a great guy to deal with and a member of these forums.

Can't say enough good things about him or the product.

As an aside, I read with great interest the discussion on the diode vs the switch for this mod. In the end, the rationale for using a switch made good sense to me.

I have the same wheeler and the high beam light is 886 bulb and just twists out and unsnaps from wiring harness , very simple.

Here is directions for your 3 light mod that someone posted for me in one of my threads here. It is simple so I would say do it yourself and save some money. It took me about 20 minutes to do. Just go to any parts store and ask for a standard 12V relay they are about $5.

Quote:
CONVERT TO 3 LIGHT SYSTEM

Converting your Pod light type Polaris Sportsman so that when the high beam selector is on, the bumper lights are also on. (3 headlamps) and when low beam is selected, only the bumper lights are on.

The nicest thing about this mod is that you do not need to cut any wires or drill any holes.

You will need to purchase a standard 12v relay, 4 pieces of 16 gauge wire about 8" long, 4 female crimp on spade connectors(for connection of wires to relay), 4 wire tap connectors.(they are usually blue and you simply insert the wires and squeeze with pliers, then fold back the protective locking cover)

Open the pod and locate the wiring listed below

Relay terminal #30 connect to Polaris green wire (low beams)
Relay terminal #87 connect to Polaris red wire (10 amp protected circuit at the lighter plug)
Relay terminal #86 connect to Polaris wire yellow wire (high beam)
Relay terminal #85 connect to Polaris brown wire (ground)

Use dielectric grease or liquid tape at all electrical connections to prevent corrosion.

The way this functions, is that when you select high beam, you are powering up the relay to give 12v to the low beam circuit from Polaris's 10amp 12v protected circuit. (No fuse needed)

if the bulb looks fine, check the ground on the highbeam light. 3 headlight mod is cheap and easy if you can solder a few wires together. i'd recommend heatshink tubing over electrical tape.

Its the bulb it was blown. It looked like it got pretty hot and even melted the plastic. I think i can fix the plastic or hope to make the buld twist back in again. Im hoping just a local auto store will carrry it. After I make sure it works then will do the 3 light mod.

headlight mod

The kit I got has a diode soldered to two wires and covered in heatshrink the total cost was $12 plus the shipping on the rest of my stuff I got.I prefer the diode over a relay just for reliably good luck on your machine.
