Rear?Front Utility Box

Any ideas on a galvanized rear utility box for a 850 XP. I like the look of the black truck tool boxes, but I don't need anything that wide. I am going to bolt it in to the rear rack and also add a back rest to it... Any ideas or pictures of homemade utility boxes?

I want to cover the entire rear rack if possible. Not sure but maybe 42"x24"x14"... Something along those lines. What do you have in mind?

id recommend 37x13x14 i mad a box out of thicker plywood this winter (wish i had pics) mine was about the size i just said idk if you do much ice fishing but with these dimensions i could fit three buckets in side by side rather easily i drilled holes and used my lock and ride mounts but bolting it in would be a much better idea i'd go with this first and see how you like it before making anything to expensive but if you do like it i'd find some diamond plate then bring it in to a local welder or fabricator and have him make it about the same size im fine with the wood one but if you wanted something that would really last that would be the way i would go you could even make a lid for it if you wanted and as far as the seat goes id just attach it wherever it feels comfortable with some screws.

Here is a box that I found on the internet that someone has. I want the same setup except on one side I want to be able to hold a gas can and on the other side I want to have a chainsaw mount...

I really like the idea of the (3) buckets, I do nothing but ice fish and plow with my atv during the winter. I also want to have a holder on the top of the box for my Jiffy 10" Auger...

that looks pretty slick i might have to make something similar for trail riding this summer cooler in the middle with two gas cans on either side as far as your auger goes i put the gun racks in the front of mine and my auger slips in nicely.

I use a heavy duty black plastic utility box I picked up at Walmart for less than $20. It's 32"x18"x13" with a hinged lid, rugged clasps, and can be padlocked.

Something about sharp metal edges on a ATV scares me! Would hate to be in a accident and have something like that land on me. That is why I prefer plastic rounded edges.

Thor, I think we must have totally different riding styles. This box will be used only for utility purposes when out clearing trailing, hunting, and ice fishing. I like the plastic boxes, but just not for this application. I probably will end up getting a front lock and ride, but unfortunately I will need to customize a box for the rear that I can use for all my needed applications...

That is understandable. I do see lots of people using metal boxes and ammo cans while doing some crazy things and think that would hurt if it landed on top of them. ;-)
