Keep it blue?

Hi Guys,
I'm doing my yearly teardown on my quad and while I was taking my rear rack off, I noticed some cracked welds. I did some repairs and cleaned up any rust that was present, I've decided to paint my rack black instead of the original blue.
Then I got thinking, I could paint all of the plastic black and have the whole quad black.
I would just like you guys opinion on whether to paint it all black or should I leave it blue like it is now?

Anyone know where I can get some decals for my 425 Magnum?

Personally I prefer Black to Blue...
But if you painted it black, I would worry about it looking like trash if the black flecked off or got scratched off showing blue underneath...

How about some full sized pics of what it looks like now.. or blue I should say.

Well, if I were to take a picture now, it would be of it torn down. The rear plastic and rack is off and the front rack is off also. the front plastic is still on as of now but it won't be for long. I have to take my radiator off to have it cleaned, keeps getting hot.
I know it's hard to see but it's the quad in my avatar.

Well I just attempted repainting the `98 Scrambler 400 plastics.
I used the Krylon FUSION for plastic paint in the spray can.
The original repaint color was to be gloss black, but I had this idea of
sanding the plastic with 150 grit to help the paint bond better. Well after
after the first coat it looked like shit as all the swirls stuck out from
sanding. So if you get this idea, use a very fine grit sand paper.

I sure as hell wasn't sanding it all over again with a finer grit paper, so I
remembered seeing a Textured paint in the Krylon FUSION. It's a black
with silver specs but a little rougher finish (this was to hide the swirls).
Anyway, did the plastics in that color and it turned out fairly good. The
pics don't due the paint job justice, but in person it looks pretty cool.
My son thinks it looks like a carbon finish. Did the front piece over in
Red also.

Trust me, the before pics look ok but it didn't look like that before I
actually painted it. The white wasn't a real white any more. I don't
know how the paint will stand up to the trail with branches and such,
but guess we'll have to wait & see. That'll be a new look with white
scratches showing through

Now have to seek out a Red Punisher skull for each side of the gas tank
and may have to do something with the rims yet.

PS. Made this vid the other day just posted it on YouTube now.
You'll notice a few gouge marks also when I tried to remove some decals,
this was before I learned the hair dryer trick from here on the forum.

I think it looks great!!!!

Good job!! Give it as much time to harden up as you can before subjecting it to abuse. Really interested in hearing how the underside of the fenders holds up!!

Thank you CW. The instructions say "Fully chip resistant after 7 days".
Regarding the underside of the fenders, I had a thought of using
rubberized undercoating, but every thing I read all said about spraying
on metal. Didn't know if it would stick to the plastic and start peeling
off.

Here's a link to the paint I used.

Hey Scott,

Does the paint crack when the plastic gets flexed? That's what I'm concerned with painting over plastic.

CW,

Here are the pics from awhile ago and the rear seat has been off for awhile as well.

Just went out and tried bending a section. The section I bent at about
a 45 degree angle down was the Right rear fender corner. No spider
cracking or cracks at all. Just finished the last coat early Sunday morning
and put it together Sunday night. Going to wait for the 7 day curing to
see if it gets any harder, then retest the bend again.

I have an idea in my head to put like an edge bead around the fender
edges. Something like you see on car door edges. It has to be smaller
and flexible to follow the contour of the fender edges, any idea's please let me know.
Again just another thought to possibly save the edges of
the fenders from getting scratched up.

Beenthere, I think your Blue looks good also. Maybe just repaint the blue
racks a satin black and get a black seat cover to break it up a little. Just
so your not feeling so blue
