Rhino Coating?
Has anyone on here sprayed their plastics with this stuff? I've heard alot of 'it won't stick to plastic', but I have a shop teacher who owned a dirt bike that was covered in the stuff. He said it was great for trailing. I recently painted the plastics with a cheap version (rubber undercoating) on what's left of my little xr. It looks quite nice, jus waiting for the epoxy I used to piece the casing of the bottom end back together to harden (I know there is going to be a comment of how it wont hold and just buy a new one, but it is a beat up bike where if something is wrong I head to the junkyard. And I've used this epoxy stuff before on a bottom end, lasted 4 years of hard riding ) Anyway back on subject, I'm tired of looking at my dumb yellow plastics and heard that this stuff makes a big difference on tight trail where you are constantly bumping into trees and what not. For me looks aren't key, I mean the bike is a trailblazer (can't get much uglier than that in my opinion), all I care is that the bike can take a beating and won't come back with yellow streaks shining through.

Box liners are typically a urethane formula and tend to stick very well if the surface is properly prepared. Plastic is a finicky surface but it is doable. I would recommend cleaning the plastic with a plastics cleaner thoroughly then sanding the plastic with a coarse sandpaper, probably 80-120 grit. Then clean again and now the plastic will be ready for the boxliner. The box liner will stick due to mechanical adhesion and I don't think it will peel as box liners are very tough and durable. Once its on it's on for life...

Well I definately don't want it to come off, the plastics on the bike are so beat up as it is, that I think this will be a big step up. There is a guy coming to spray our 42' boat with rhino lining in a couple weeks. So I'm thinking I will take your advice with the tough grit sandpaper and just take the plastics to him.

Recently, I mentioned this same idea under the thread "Keep it blue" in this forum. I suggested it, because of a man I know here in town that had his work truck "painted" with the Rhino coating, it came out looking pretty good and seems to stand up well against scratches and other minor damage. I thought it would be a good idea, if it would stick, for ATVers who really ride their machines hard and need some protection and are not concerned about a "factory look paint job".

Finished with the fenders on my xr, turned out quite well....definately better than any soray paint, gives it a tougher look and seemed to cure quite well on the plastic.

Looks nice. How does it stand up to flexing the plastic?

They hold up surprisingly well, and hardly scratch at all, and these were plastics that had been scrounged up. So if you had seen them before you would have been amazed. I also threw on a couple coats of paint. Planning to do the side plastics next. And when I finally get to a store (I live in a rural part of Alaska) I will buy enough for my trailblazer.
