Xp lock and ride box design Suggestions
Hey guys I’m in talks with a manufacturer and he is looking to design an aluminum box that mounts using the xp’s lock and ride holes. I would like hearing any input on what you guys would like to see in the design of this box. What type of items would you want to have mounts for so that you could mount thing to the outside or inside. He would make a box then make different mounts that could be bolted to the box or mounts that would be welded on. Any input on what and how you would like things to be mounted would helpful also input on size and shape. He will also make his own lock and ride pins.

some way to strap things to the top of the box. Even the lock and ride box really doesnt have any way to tie bungees to it so you can strap down anything. something like either recessed anchor points for bungees, or pins to tie bungees or rope to.
Maybe a 3" high rack that can be mounted on the outside.
I hate how it is not very convienant to be able to just strap something down on either the stock racks or the lock-ride boxes.

I have a touring model and there is very few boxes that will fit and have any space. I would like to see a box that could hold a helmet and some supplies and keep the back seat in tact.

One of my buddies made a smaller lock and ride box that I really like. He took a smaller box and mounted an L bracket to each side and used the outer lock holes on the back rack. I like it because its not huge but still gives you space to carry things with out having them covered in dust. It also makes a decent back rest for a passenger.

Thanks for the input a rack that can be bolted onto the top could be an option I don't think it would be to big of a deal. Tie down points are a good idea I will see about flush mount I like that idea. I will look in to the a cup holder to see how to work it in. Keep the input coming.

Water proof. Built in backrest. Made from a non-reflective material not resembling diamond plate (can you say redneck?). Large enough to actually hold something other than a half shell helmet and a six pack. Additional waterproof storage inside the lid to hold paperwork, wallets, cell phone, keys etc. How about a box that removes the existing cheesy black plastic base and occupies and conforms to that space. Hydroformed so that it is not a box, but has an actual shape that compliments the machine. Attach points for bungees, Rotopax and Kolpin fuel cans. Hmmm... sure I could think of more.

Yea, the fuel pack mount would be great, mounted 4 gal. kolpin behind rear lock & ride box on my xp and it was a pain in my third ear! All the other previously mentioned were excellent ideas as well. When you finish send me one and I'll try it out for ya. Make sure it works good for everyone!

I was referring mostly to a front L & R box for wanting places for tie downs and bungees. I like to be able to throw a gun case, jackets, just whatever on the front and bungee them down. I like the front because it keeps dust off of things better than the rear. A waterproof area would be good.
