Talking Mud flaps/Fender extensions

I am going to make my own. I have a couple ideas but I wondered if any of you guys already blazed a trail. I know there are flairs I can buy and I do like them. But for now looking for "home brewed solutions"

Post up your pics or jot down ideas!! I could use some help!!!

I'm tbinking of trimming down car/truck flaps to appropraite size and attaching to rear fenders. Would like to get something like those Yosemity Sam,"BACK OFF". Lol

For the front, again trim something down. I really just would like to limit the spray from bottom edge. The factory fenders/plastic work great at keeping me dry. But my box and side bags are getting soaked!!!

I'll post pics of what i come up with once I do it with in next couple weeks

Hey CW...I ran across a bunch of info like you need on GEN3USA a while back when working on my bud's old scrambler. There's a link to a place with rolls of plastic like you need at reasonable prices that is used for stock car bodies. I ordered some and built him some flares and me some flaps to go on my 800.

oops the link didn't work but here's the address and search "fender flares"

whatever you do don't use stainless steel or any other steel or aluminum sheet to add flares/widen the fenders. unless you roll the edges I went to hop on my banshee one day and cut the heck outta my calve :-x

OUCH!! Hope your ok?!?!

I actually DID use some Alum diamond plate for the rear extentions. Should not be problem as its back and beneath bumper.

For the front, I cut domn some flaps and bolted them to the front of the footwells.

Try them out soon...

I added these...

I ordered flaps from JC Whitney and cut them down to fit (just make sure you buy the correct width). In addition to the photo, I have added extra screws/mounts (all are speed nuts).
Many rides since adding them with no trouble. Total cost = $19.00

Looks good, can you post larger pic... I can hardly see. I was hoping someone would post pics of a XP. Pop wants something too!!

Today I had to pull the rear bumper as I was lazy and didn't put pop rivets behind it. Well... don't ya know it rattles badly!! I pulled the bumper... never realized it was THAT heavy!!! It weighs nearly twice what my two up rack does!!!! SO I'm leaving it off! But I used it as a pull down when trailering to compress the suspension. SO, time to fab up a bar out back!!

Here is what I came up with, a 18" stick of 1x1/2"x1/8" thick steel. Two 1/4"x1" flat stock tabs and a bit of weld to hole it together. I drilled mounting holes in the tabs, Then I tapped two blind holes to attach another flap...

Then of coarse, Yosemite's was hollering at me cause I kinda dissed him with the diamond plate flaps... so one he went for "looks".

Looks OK what do you'll think?

Glad you posted up!!

Could you post a larger pic? Its too hard to see your tiny one.

Pop has a XP and would like some too...

Today I added a center flap...

I wanted to put two more rivets in my rear flaps as they where rattling. I got lazy and didn't put them in originally. Anyhow, my bumper is WAY heavy!!! So i left it off. BUT I used it for compressing the suspension so I made up a short bar outta some scrap steel. I welded in two tabs and tapped two holes for the center flap. (flap is for looks I know its not gonna do anything.) The bar is nice to move machine and compressing suspension while trailering.

Tell me what you think!
