Fender Protection

Well, I finally pulled the plug and covered my fenders. My fenders were horribly scratched up, and needed to be covered. Fender flares were not an option because they extended the width of the bike, and I can barely fit down some of the trails as it is (hence the tore up fenders). I decided the only option that met my needs was some type of "paint" style covering. After considerable research, I decided on Herculiner roll on bed liner. It wasn't as hard as I thought, and I think it looks pretty good. I think it adds that "off-road" look, and hopefully will hold up. Here's a couple of pics.

THANKS guys !!!!!!

Everything I have read stressed the importance of proper prep work. The "scuff pad" that came in the kit didn't seem to do the job for me. So I ended up with 80 grit sandpaper and sanded into the fiberglass to make sure there was plenty of "scuff" for the Herculiner to adhere to. Then cleaned it with acetone to make sure there was no wax or other residue. I hope that's enough. It was above and beyond what the instructions called for.

It's only been on for 2 days, but it seems to be pretty hard/durable but still flexible enough to allow movement on the fenders if something rubs them. I should know next weekend how it holds up. We're planning a ride in one of the places that's been hard on my fenders.
