Skid plates-installation question

Should receive my skid plates today (thanks Thor)
My question is:
Has anyone installed skid plates on an X2? I have a 2011 550 X2 and would like to stand it on its end for the install but am worried that would be too much weight on the dump bed.
I do not have a winch installed, so I can't support it that way...
Or would it be fine to just stand it up- i.e. won't do damage to my dump bed?

While typing this, the UPS man just knocked on the door... they're here!
