Recommended paint for racks?

I'm looking for something strong that won't chip off or get scratched for both rear and front racks. Any recommendations?

I agree with the powder coating...that would look really good and wouldn't cost much.

I personally went with Dupicolor spray on bed liner. About three coats gives you a textured, durable coating; and since it's textured you can do spot-sprays as needed for touch-up without it being at all noticeable.

powder coating is not an option for me at the moment.

How did you apply that duplicolor bed liner? spray can, brush etc?

Spray can...nice even strokes at about 12" distance...3 coats. The trick is to keep the nozzle clean between coats otherwise it sprays a little funky and could produce a different texture for your subsequent coats.

I'm thinking that might be a little too 'soft' -- for lack of a better term. I've tried various 'rubberized' and/or 'undercoating' products on my truck and never had good results as far as durability is concerned.

I mean, they do what they say they do, provide corrosion protection and sound deadening, but this kind of product doesn't hold up well to harsh abrasion. If you scrap it against a rock or tree you'll be liable to dig right into it. And if it's like other similar undercoating products, it'll be hard to touch-up rough abrasions...that is, if you want them to be unnoticeable, because it gums up when you try to sand it.

Bed liner is prolly your best bet...or, if you never what to worry about it again, get it Line-Xed.

UPDATE: Of course...this article says it has better abrasive resistant properties then standard undercoating products.

also I found 3 types of brand/can spray available at autozone...

one is from Duplicolor called rubberized undercoating can spray. the other is just bed liner..they sell it in can spray and 1 qt bucket. I believe is from 3m as well.

Also our local paint store carries another abit more expensive that is supposed to be stronger but i cant remember the name. is from the same brand names mentioned above and the can label is in green colored
