the orange/white wire under the headlight pod that is not connected to anything. There are two seperate wires under there. Either is fine, they are both acc. power wires. Its a key on 12v power.
They wire you tied into is only live when the headlight is on as you found out.

on my o11 550 i took my main power to my switch off the 12v "cig lighter" and then mounted my switch in the side of the head lamp modual down by where the handle bar comes out. power only comes on when the key is "on" so there is not worries of leaving your heaters on and draining the batt. with the key off. i can post pictures if need be.

What is the red blue wire? I see the red white as key power but just wondering what that red blue wire is.

I am getting ready to install mine. Looks like there is an orange wire, and 2 brown wires that go the the 12v "cig lighter" Which one is the power wire?
I also need to ground the handwarmers, where did you ground yours?

the orange and white wire on the "cig" lighter is the power wire, i snipped the wire off as close to the OEM conector stripped it back and put it and my handwarmer power in a new spade connector
for the ground i put the two gronds in a connector with a round end on it and use a self tapping screw and ran it into the metal bracket inside the pod.
hope this helps

Ps The spade conectors I got are shealded from end to end as you and see on the power wire I noticed the oem one was too. Thought it was a good idea to use this style rather then the exposed ends incase water gets up in there or something
