Lock & ride boxes, prices?

Ok guys I'm looking into some boxes for my '11 850xp and I'm loooking into the lock & ride front & rear boxes from Polaris. I'm looking for prices on both as I checked around and keep coming up with different prices. The catalog is saying $219 & $169, and local dealer is $199 & $159. Now another dealer a few miles further is having a Polaris open house this Saturday and is offering 20% off all Polaris parts & accessories from 9-2. Now I'm thinking this is my chance to pick them up at a decent price. So my question is...what is everybody paying for these boxes and is the 20% off a good deal? Is there anyplace that has these cheaper?

I don't know about pricing in your area but I know this: the Canadian price on the Polaris website is exactly what I have paid for all my accessories unless there are specials or discounts at the dealer. I find it convenient to go to the dealer with the part number in hand and know what I am paying. If you can get 20% off, that's great! I am very happy with the parts I have chosen, and feel that they are competitively priced for items made specifically for my vehicle. They fit perfect with no modification. Some people may choose other aftermarket items for various reasons and that's great because there is some cool stuff out there!

As far as finding it cheaper, I have seen these exact boxes dirt cheap on eBay and the like, yet the shipping costs negate any saving you may realize by going that route. I choose to support my local dealer which in turn supports my local economy. Sometimes I don't if it interferes with my personal economy! Talk to your dealer as well, sometimes they have incentives if you make multiple purchases. You never know!

I only have the regular sportsman rear L & R not the XP and I got it with a coupon from the dealer for $169 (15% off $199). He also applied the coupon to the bags and harware so I got the whole setup for $200 after tax (no seat cushion).

I think if you can get 20% off you're doing well. Just check Babbit's or Hit-the-gas to see what they are selling them for, since they are good for dealer comparisons and you can be sure that the starting price from your dealer is not in excess of normal.

Thanks guys, yeah I thought about just getting a box from tractor supply for $69 and putting in the lock & ride mounts. But I really like how the Polaris ones flow with the body. I was surfing Polaris dealer websites when I came across this one dealers open house offering 20% off. I'm guessing that they won't have the boxes in stock and that they will have to order them, but I might just take advantage of the sale. I need some other odds & ends anyway so I might as well do it all at once.

20% off is a good deal. Plus if you have to have that rear box shipped from an online retailer it will be expensive. I also had a coupon when I bought my rear one for 20% or something like that and it was cheaper to get it from the dealer because of shipping costs.

I think you'll be very happy w/ the OEM L&R box. I'm not usually a fan of oem add-ons but this is one that really works out well. The sizing is perfect and design with the saddlebags is nearly flawless.

I spent several weeks trying to decide what kind of cargo box I wanted to add to my 2011 550 Sportsman and after comparing measurements, etc, and going to several stores to actually "feel" the boxe structure, I made the right decision. Purchased a Quadboss Backcountry Trunk with top rails. Kinda pricy ($291.99), but free shipping. I installed the box with 4 lock and ride mounts, purchased separately (don't purchase from a Polaris, they charge $27.97 a "mount" plus tax). TheATVSuperstore sells them in pairs and there metal, not plastic like Polaris (which I broke the stem) and you adjust the stem by turning a lock nut. The box itself is very sturdy and I plan on attaching water contain and extra gas contain on each side. In addition contrary to Polaris you can put two large helmets inside with room for more gear. Also will hold a 6 can/bottle cooler with more than ample room left over. If you want pics, let me know. I know that the cost seems high, but remember you get what you pay for.

I looked at building mine own at first but noticed a lot of good reviews on both the front & rear Polaris boxes. Misirmike, thanks for the heads up on the quadboss, but yeah it's pricey! I'm not thrilled at the price for the Polaris ones either but figure nows the time to buy. A question for anyone that has one or the other lock & rides, how many mounts do they have, 2-4? Does it feel secure with the boxes full of gear? I'm worried that the rear fully loaded might snap off at the mounts.
