synthetic whinch cable input

i was talking with somt guys at work the other day and they said oh if your going to do alot of plowing get a synthetic "rope cable", each of them had broke their steal ones numerous times. on the other hand two of my good friends also plow there driveways and what not and i have never heard of them ever breaking there steal cable.

how many of your run synthetic? is this somthing i should worry about? are there any draw backs to the synthetic one? and is it as good as the steal one if im out in the woods and need to use it to pull myself or someone out?

thanks

neal

I plow with mine a lot and have never had a problem with water freezing it. Used to have a steel cable and I was always having to repair the eye cause it would kink and break all the time.

The synthetic is WAAAAYY better.

One hell ride in the mud using the winch about 10 times I kinked the steel cable in about 3 places and now the winch has some difficulties spooling. Im so done with steel cables!

You will want to puchase 50' Amsteel Blue Synthetic Rope and nothing less. 3 1/16" rope is more then enough for the 2500lbs winch and more then enough for even a 3500lbs winch.

As always make sure to purchase a new fairlead as your old one will be marked up from the steel cable. I also recommend a winch saver so you don't winch in the rope too far and mess up the fiarlead by dragging in the timble or hook.

I purchase a complete kit from this e-bay seller:

http://stores.ebay.ca/BLITZKRUEG-products-LLC

For me he had quality products and shipped to canada with decent rates via USPS. Be aware the cheaper e-bay sellers may sell you a zinc coated timble, or zince coated firalead hardware where this seller is all stainless steel. Just little things to watch.

I agree with the guys so far. Syn line is actually stronger then cable!!! BUT you need to be careful of abrasion, dont run it over a sharp edge!

Personally I use a short piece for plowing, but I have never broken it. I think many people break the cable over lifting the plow.

New HAWES fairleed is excellent advice. If you have a roller you could get away with changing the rollers. I prefer a aluminum hawes fairleed for syn line. I have it on my Jeep and on my Sportsman NO ISSUES!!
