Guru Bumpers?

Hi all.

A few days ago I had an accident with my 2011 500 HO. The polaris front bumper is useless now so when I get the bike repaired I'm thinking of getting the Guru front and rear bumpers for it.

My first question about them is with the expanded metal option, how bad do they pack up with snow? The extra protection they give is important to me because of the type of riding I do. But I hate it when the snow gets packed in between the body and bumper etc.

My second question is how big are they? Its another 150$ to ship to Canada. I have friends in the States and they'd have no problem letting me ship to their house, but I'd like to know if I'd be able to bring them back via airplane; either as carry-on or as luggage.

Thanks

I actually have the box that the front came in still if you want me to measure it. If you search my posts I have pics up of the box. It was listed as 21lbs.

As far as snow, I don't think it will be a problem. There is some clearance between the guard and the machine, and the expanded metal holes are decent sized.

It is a great brush guard and you won't be disappointed if you get it.

If you could measure it I'd appreciate it. The holes look to be fairly large, but it's always so hard to tell in pictures.

not sure why your going with those bumpers... they are GREAT dont get me wrong... but looking in for a bumper to prevent damage to the atv from a crash... well...i dont think it will do much....

think of it in this way.. why are car bumpers SOFT? its to slow you down... a hard bumper will move all tht force into the frame and will do more damage... maybe not to the vehicle but to the driver....

another thing is... my friends have a guru bumper with no expanded metal but only in the center... well... it does pack up snow but SOMETIMES..... not oftenly... same as on my x2.... the snow packs up there (plus theres my winch there) with nothing infront of it (no expanded metal or such) my only worry is CLEANING....you wont be able to get your hand in there to scrape the snow off with expanded metal...

but its an amazing bumper none the less.... you wont regret your purchase.....
hope i helped

Yes you did help. A few points you mentioned hadn't crossed my mind, especially with regards to force transfer.

When I bought the ATV it came with the Polaris brush guard. I like it but just wish there was more protection (i.e lower down, by the winch). After seeing how it crippled in the crash on the 24th, I would prefer something with more strength and protection, especially for the riding I do.

With regards to cleaning I've started carrying a small metal pipe with me to scrape the compacted snow off the foot rests. As long as I can get that in I'll be happy.

Thanks for your input!

in that case go for it...
its not like you are going to ride 50 MPH and crash into a wall or something...

but ive seen far too many accidents with pick ups with plows to know that hard isnt good for bumpers...

as for carrying the metal pipe then i guess you will be fine with cleaning it...

if you want check out car crash tests.... youll notice that the front and rear parts of the car are made to "squish" and absorb energy/force...and keep the passengers safe... older cars (or some more present cheap Chinese cars) because of a harder body, theres no energy absorption and causes the whole body to "squish"

i agree, if you need something to protect the winch... there isnt a huge amount of possibilities to protect that area...

I think chguide is correct on the energy transfer to whatever the bumper is fastened to. It will take nearly the same hit the bumper does.
BUT boy o boy, those GURU bumpers look great and they do the job of "brush-guarding" better than anything else out there.
I just love mine with the full expanded metal front and rear. You are right, again, cleaning is a pain but doable.

At the Mena Ride In AR that TheATVSuperStore.com helped sponsor we had a little malfunction with the sled pull. The proud new owner of a X2 with Guru's installed wanted to test the power of his brand new unit. As he started to pull the box did not move forward. Because of this he gained too much speed and ended up running out of track. As he stopped the box on the pull came loose and slid right off the pull and onto his brand new X2. If it was not for our Guru bumper he would have had the 2k lb box on is back. As you can see by the pic the only thing that happened to the bumper is that it suffered a little ding!

The quad was totaled.

Any questions about them feel free to call the shop & ask for Thor! Hey! Looking for a ATV GURU Front Brush Guards or Rear Bumper?
