A little fab work!

So I want a way to mount and old Fuel Pack I had (company no longer around to get mounts for) on the wife's 330 Magnum. With a 3 gal tank, trips are short and couldn't see buying something new.
Plus I was bored and my welder was just begging to be used. I fabbed up a mounting system for it. It is rock solid! I also tack welded some 50cal ammo boxes for water tight storage for her. I wanted her to be able to use the fuel pack with or with the rear drop basket. It also has a front basket so could not flat mount it. And if she wants the pack can be removed with no interference from the mount system.
Hope you guys and gals approve. Oh after I repainted the basket and rack, I ended up painting the fuel pack the same color. Man this machine is starting to look like a Sherman Tank!

It's not really that hard, most welding supply companies offer welding courses, all you really need is a basic course, then buy a cheap MIG welder and you're all set!! It doesn't take long for it to pretty much become a hot glue gun for metal

I bought my cheap welder from Harbor Freight.
Flux Welder - 110 Amp
It works for what I need to do. I then basic self taught myself, watch a few videos and before you know it I was laying a pretty good bead down on scrap steel I could find.
I also built the brush guard on this machine.

A welder is such a versitle tool. It would really benefit anyone who enjoys the outdoors and motor sports. It just opens up a world of possibilities.
I'm not the best welder but I can splatter pretty good. My welds may be ugly but they work! I wanted to put an old Craftsman plow on an old Trial Boss. Nobody makes mounts for that application! A little cutting, welding and grinding and presto! A little more work and I had a winch mount to too.

If you have a couple extra bucks, grab a cheap weld and some scrap. A little practice and you will be laying beads before you know it.

It is very rewarding to to make something yourself that is practicle and useful.

Awesome job on the racks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree, although courses arent needed, just need to read the manual, believe it or not, my manual included some helpful info!.

I learned how to weld myself pretty quickly, it was simple enough once you get the idea on what to do.
Just need afew pieces to weld, i used 2 old T door hinges, welding lines, filling the holes, welding so they dont move. any old scrap metal that isnt really rusty is good for training...

Just wondering what welding machines you guys own?
i presently own a MIG-PAK 180 by Lincoln Electric.
with the aluminum gun/feature.

might buy a TIG some time later on... im thinking Miller if the price seems OK if not then another Lincoln...

Just want to add, think about investing in an auto darkening welder mask/helmet.

btw. nice job, looks pretty good...
