Does this look like enough space in between? I stacked washers 1/4" before I ordered spacers to see if it was enough. These are bearclaw htr 26x9 on a 2006 Polaris sportsman 800. Thanks for any help
I think you'll be just fine, mine look about that close with stock size tires. If the tire does flex it would more than likely be at the bottom, not the top by the tie rod end.
The front wheels are so narrow (6') that I like to go to a 7" and put that extra inch outward. I believe the fronts are 4+2 and the what I used was 4+3's. Pretty sure I went 5+3 on the rear. I like to keep the wheel width a bit closer to the tire width. Helps give the tire better shoulders.
One other tip I have with those old tie rod ends is use an injection needle and put grease in the boots to help protect and lube the joints.
I put 1/4 spacer on mine and flipped the outer tie rod ends on my 800, before getting a different set of wheels/tires with a wider rim offset then factory.
There isn't a lot of deflection in the tire at the top. I'm sure it will touch at times, but it won't rub the majority of the time. I prefer a little more clearance, but you may be fine.
Remember, that if mud / debris stick to the sidewall the tie rod end/boot will work as the 'scraper' and tear the boot.... just speaking from experience!
