05 Sportsman Wheel/Tire Sizes

Hi all,

Tried using the search function and couldnt find anything pertaining to my question. Sorry for the overlap if I am creating a new thread. Please send a link or other information if somebody has it available.

Im looking to upgrade to aftermarket wheels/tires. Tires aside, looking to go 14" wheels. What would the bolt pattern, back spacing, and wheel width I should go with to stay similar to stock? A little wider is fine, but I dont want to deal with any rubbing/spacers if I dont have to. I know I'm gonna try and run a 26" tire as well.

Front and rear, what are the specs and what does everybody recommend for my machine?

Thanks in advance.

As offered its gonna depend on where your coming from. IE what size and what 05' sportsman do you have

I'm gonna guess a 25" tire. Easiest would be a set of "take offs" from someone up grading to a aftermarket set up. Many sportsmans after 2005 came with the option of a 26" wheel package. XPs also got you a 14" rim and a 26" tire. These should fit without any clearance issues.
The volt pattern on Sportsmans XP and Ranger is all the same 4x156mm so that part is a non issue.

Hey guys, thanks for the help so far...

Quad is an 05 Sporty 500ho...

Definetly looking to go 14" wheels with 26" tires. Thoughts on 27" tires? I mainly trail ride with some occasional off trail (Mud/Rock) nothing crazy though...Pattern like a Maxxis BigHorn is being considered...Any thoughts?

What is the front and rear max tire/wheel width and backspacing I can go with without any rubbing issues?

Thanks again to all...I appreciate it!

I run the 26" bighorns on stock rims and no rubbing. Love the tires. They are great for the riding you say you do. In reality, the bighorns run an inch big so the 26" measure at 27" so your kinda getting alittle more bang for your buck.
