Tires for Sportsman 500 touring?
Need info on tires. The stock Carlisle tires seem to roll a lot and cake up with mud. Any info would be appreciated. We slid down a hill last week, the wife didnt like it!

Welcome Nugget!!
We all have our favorites based on where and how each of us ride. For accurate recommendations from us, we would need to know how and where you ride... Trail type and conditions...
There is a general consensus here about a couple tires. Lets here from you first...

Not sure if Im replying in the right spot. In response to cwlongshot, We occasionally go to atv rallys where there are some good hills and some good mud! When wet, the hills can be slick, so I think I need a more aggressive tread. I like to challenge the mud, but also ride on the road occasionally for 3 or 4 miles to my sons house. What about going to a larger size or width? Would it affect my handling or stability. I need to fill up those wheel wells a little more! By the way it is a 2008, sportsman 2 up touring 500. I also hunt a lot so I venture into some rough country. Occasionally I like to race! I think that covers it. Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks
Nugget.

OK Nugget!
Based on your explanations, I am going to suggest the GBC SPARTACUS Radials. there are a number of good selections available for your riding. I choose these for a couple reasons.
1, they are a good name tire GBC.
2, The tire is 8Ply good tough construction.
3, Its a Radial, yours is a 2UP so you have a passenger and quality smooth ride is an important thing!
4, the tread in this tire is aggressive enough for good traction in the sloppy stuff. Yet not too much as to effect a smooth ride.
As I said, there are other choices, but this is my suggestion for you,
CW

So longshot, are you a tire specialist or is this from your personal experience? Also what about going to a larger size like a 26 x 10 x12 for the front and 26 x 12 x 12 for the back? Would it lose any power? Would I have to put in a clutch kit? Thanks!

No expert here, I actually have BIG HORN'S but you mentioned mud and that's not a strong point with the BH's. Round here the GBC tires in Grim Reaper and Spartacus are real favorites for the reasons I have described.
The GR's are a better rock tire, more in line with the BH's, other wise I would have recommended one of those.
As for sizes, the 26" would be a nice sensible increase in size. Clutch kit would not be a necessity, but may prove a good idea. I went with one when I added my 26" BH's. As for the wider tire, your gonna need to address the clearances under the machine. Either new rims with less back spacers or spacers and your stock rims.
