need tires on a skinny budget

I am looking for new tires for my 2000 polaris 500 4x4. at489 25x8-12 front, 25x11-10 rear. Anybody have any input on the best of the least expensive tires?

Personally I have read far too many threads where guys where in your predicament and bought cheap tires and swear it was the worst decision they made... I know its tough and some tires are better then others, but have you looked for some used tires to get you thru to better times? I mean with all the guys buying new tires whats happening to the old ones??

We sold off pops factory stock tires and rims for 200 IIRC... They where BRAND NEW!!

I've got a pair of Carlisle ACTs, 26x10-12 that I originally bought for the front of my 700, but they were too wide and I didn't want to go with spacers. I ran them for a day (about 12 miles) then ordered ACT HDs all the way around.

Where are you at in PA? I'd let both of them go for $100. Then you'd only have to buy two more at retail price to have a match set.

I'm not a tire guy so maybe you can help. my fronts are 25 x 8-12. I assume that is inches and my backs are 25 x 11-10. I do not know what that means...(could you explain?) so when you say you have 26 x 10-12 what would I have to do to make them work? on my bike

The first number is how tall the tire is, the second number is how wide the tire is, and the third is the size wheel/rim it will fit. So a 26x10-12 is 26" tall, 10" wide, and fits a 12" rim.

That said, I've found that the 'actual' size of the tire varies from brand to brand and design to design. My 26x10-12s, when mounted, are really about 24.5" tall and 10.25" wide.

Are you certain that your rear tires are 25x11-10? That would mean that your rims in the rear are smaller than your fronts. If that's so, then my tires probably won't do you much good because they'd only fit your front rims and due to their width they'd more than likely rub your tie rods.

Thanks. I wil double check the sizes.....I got the sizes from babbit's online. I suspect they are right on the money...my icon is the bike and the rears do look smaller. Thanks for the info...I learn something new everyday.. Oh and thanks for the great offer too...even if they wont work..that was a good deal.

I have bought a couple used sets off Craigslist now. You can buy good tires that are slightly used cheaper than you can buy cheap tires that you won't be happy with. Just my .02
